OK, Geeks. I need your help. There’s a forum that’s hotlinking a big load of images from GGC and they are sucking my bandwidth dry. Luckily, I have tons of BW every month but I’m about ready to bitch slap the little twerps for doing this. This is not the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last. It happened another time a few weeks ago but it was just one image and I was able to quickly change the file name. This is about 15 very large images and I’m trying to avoid having to go in and change the file names. I’ve been reading about preventing hotlinking with .htaccess but I can’t get it to work! Any ideas?

Movable Type 4.0 was released today. Hmmm…I think I’m going to download the free version and give it a whirl on a test blog. I doubt I’ll switch from Wordpress but I like to keep up to date on all the latest happenings in the blogging world. Back in the day MT was all the rage. Then WP came to town and sorta took over. I’ll let you know how I like it.

There is a great new web site out there that has been created to drive lots of traffic to your site. Well, that site is called Thoof! I’m sure you’ve probably heard of it by now but I just discovered it myself.

Thoof allows you personalized news, websites, videos, and other links all just to your individualized tastes. Here’s how it works. First, you have got to sign up and submit a story. Make sure you give a good description and add some relevant tags too. It can be your very own blog post or another story you find on someone else’s blog. Then you have to place the Thoof Rank badge with in your post. The Thoof Rank badge is a little widget that shows the popularity of a submitted post. It lets readers know how interesting a story really is.

I signed up and submitted a post and I’m looking forward to seeing how this will impact my traffic here at Caffeinated Ramblings. I need to go back and submit a few more if it looks like something that will really be beneficial to this site. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Thoof from other bloggers in the blogging community.

I am just speechless right now. There really are no words.

LITTLE ROCK — An Arkansas couple had a baby daughter Thursday — their 17th child and seventh girl — and the pair say they’re still not ready to give it a rest.

Why not keep having them! The older ones can raise them when they are dead and gone. This family creeps me out.

I’m finding this very hard to believe but Google seems to be down. Am I the only one having trouble?

ETA: Well, it’s back now but that was weird not being able to access the Google search engine.

I am very happy with my host but I am wanting to upgrade to a reseller plan. The fan site I manage is using Yahoo hosting and, well, I just do not like it at all. Remember, I am not the owner of this site but just a co-admin who does most of the techy stuff.

I’m trying to switch the main page (not the forums) over to a CMS so that it can be updated more easily. Wordpress and Yahoo do not mix at all. The only way to install it is to use the pre-installed version through the control panel. Well, that’s fine except it’s an old version. I tried to upgrade and totally screwed up the install. Did the pre-install again and I can get any of the themes to work. It’s just jacked up. So I try to create my own database and install it myself. Well, the only way to create a database is to go into phpmyadmin. Well, it turns out that Yahoo has not updraded that in a while either and I can’t set permissions for users. It doesn’t have to be this hard! LOL

The bottom line is that I miss my cPanel. I’ve been using it for years on the various hosts I’ve used and know all of its ins and outs pretty well. Well enough to get this site running the way I want it too.

So, now, I’m just fed the hell up and asked the owner, who happens to be my best friend, if she would object to moving the site off Yahoo. She gave me the OK to start shopping around. I thought I would see if I could find a good reasonably priced reseller account and just move all my sites there as well.. I’ve had a reseller account before and enjoyed it. I even had a few people host with me.

So here are my questions for you. Who is your host? Do you have a reseller plan? If so, do you like it? Any problems? Prices? There are so many web hosts out there it’s hard to know who’s really good and reliable. I want to choose based on good recommendations.

Right now, I’m looking at JaguarPC’s PartnerPlus plan with 12gb of space and 125gb of bandwidth for $19.95 a month. I used their Gigadeal a few years ago and like it.
